190# Take the Alleppey - Quilon eight hour boat trip @ approx 6 USD. This is a government boat service. Private boat services will be even more costlier.
In high hopes to attract tourist and passengers, the Kollam-Alappuzha boat service by the Kerala state water transport department ( SWTD) has resumed operation from Monday (8 February 2010) after being suspended for over a decade.
This 80 Kms long stretch has much history to showcase and was a major route in the ancient history of backwater cargo movement .I am sure some one here on the forum might have taken this cruise long back, much before the backwaters gained prominence in the tourism map of Kerala and houseboat industry started. There were times when one could travel from Alleppey to Kollam (then, Quilon) by this government boat for just INR 11..!!
The boat starts from Alleppey government boat jetty ( water transport Jetty) in the town at 10:30 AM and simultaneously from Kollam boat jetty( near the KSRTC bus station) at 10:30 AM. The boat services will have stops at Thottappally, Thrikkunnapuzha, coir village, Ayiramthengu, Amrithapuri ( for Matha Amruthanandamayi Ashram) and Chavara before reaching Kollam.
The boats are with modern facilities and has a capacity to carry 90 passengers with 20 seats on the upper deck. The fare for the trip is INR 300 per person .
